"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" Matthew 6:21
Deep down in our hearts, what is our treasure and where is it hidden?
I was thinking about what preoccupies my mind and how much I am willing to go out for the people and things I love. Our heart has different compartments, but generally our hearts are pretty small and can only contain so much. Distractions so often fill our hearts and so many times, we are pulled away by all the other things we treasure and value.
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." Matthew 13:44
That is the treasure we have!! In utter and full joy, the man cared less for the things he had in possession and abandoned everything only to possess the hidden treasure! In the same way, we have to be ready to let go of the things on earth that we care about (formerly and presently). The paradox is that even though surrendering these things seem so costly and may cause us pain...and perhaps even seem like folliness to the world, the treasures that we will gain from the letting go is so much more valuable...so much richer and so much better!! Nothing can compare to it!
We have to give our whole hearts to Jesus. It is only then that we can afford the field and be able to possess the treasures.
Let us set our hearts towards Jesus.
Let us guard it jealously never to let go of the treasure we have found!
