Through a humbling place...

reflections from Oswald Chamber's "Why can I not Follow You Now" and "The Life of Power to Follow" My Utmost for Your Highest devotions

As we become too confident in and of ourselves or for the purposes of sanctification, we may find ourselves suddenly being brought to a place of testing, of unavoidable waiting, a place of brokenness where we see how weak and little we are. In that way, we learn through the situations and our responses that we cannot achieve anything and are unable to rely on ourselves to accomplish anything. After coming to this realization, God can just as quickly lift us up into a crest and to a place of internal joyour celebration. Yet, our past failures and destitution keeps us in a humble place, knowing that it was all God and only God, and none of us.
