God said in Genesis 1:3 "Let there be light"; and there was light.
Light is beautiful; it's glorious; it's powerful.
Taken from wikipedia, when relating to (Hebrew: "יְהִי אוֹר"). The full phrase is "dixitque Deus fiat lux et facta est lux" ("And said God let there be light, and there was light"), from the Greek "και είπε ο Θεός γενηθήτω φως και εγένετο φως" (or kai eipen ho Theos genēthētō phōs kai egeneto phōs), from the Hebrew "וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים, יְהִי אוֹר; וַיְהִי אוֹר" (or vayo'mer 'Elohiym yehiy 'or vayehiy 'or).
I wish i could read these words in the ancient tongues but i must confess, i can only recognise Deus.
So like always, people only appreciate what they have when they no longer have something. This was exactly what i felt tonight. We had a power failure and half the house was in darkness. After mum and I tried to fix it, we very deftly covered the house in total darkness. Parfait.
In darkness, there is loneliness. there is misery. Recalling from summer conference, the pastor gave an analogy of a girl who was living in her cupboard for her whole life. Not having seen light or the world outside of her cupboard, she knew not of the wonderful colours, taste and sights in life.
The world is full of light now. There are the postcard nighscapes, and the lights that nearly never die out. But how many of us have actually seen the light? Even for those who have, how often do we reflect it?
Let there be light. And hot water.
so there was no hot water either and i had a cold rinse. It made me feel sorry too for those who didn't have regularly electricity and regularly watersupply. Who am I to complain about not being able to enjoy my warm shower? I'm really just one of the many urbanised and pampered citizen of our crazy world.
I need to learn to be tougher. Besides, rinsing in cold water (note: but pls use warm water for hair) is really good for your skin. Secondly, it feels refreshing. thirdly, if i do get the internship with the planning association and get to do planning stuff for the people in Ghana or elsewhere, i'll have to learn to survive without the usual comforts that urban people take for granted.
I'm glad we had the power failure=)
